The following awards are open to all club members:
BASIC SKILLS AWARD (Club) ACAS 2008.
The basic skills award is a club level accreditation award, this is really for first time paddlers or for those that have
never received formal training and would like to learn the fundamental skills that form the basis of paddling a kayak
safely.
It can be delivered and assessed by a current AC Instructor. Assessment will be carried out on flat sheltered water.
Duration: Approx 4 hours inc assessment depending on group size.
CONTINUATION TRAINING Prerequesite - Basic Skills Award. (Club)
Following on from the Basic Skills Award and spending more time on improving the individual skill components to
build understanding and confidence. It will be delivered by a current AC Instructor. Assessment not required.
Duration as required.
INTERMEDIATE SEA SKILLS AWARD Prerequesite - Basic Skills Award.
The Intermediate Sea Skills Award (club level) is a continuous training program of instruction, teaching safe and
confident paddling in moderate sea conditions.
It will be delivered and assessed by a current AC Instructor. Assessment will be carried out in moderate sea conditions.
Duration: up to 4 hour sessions, as many as required.
SEA SKILLS AWARD ACAS 2008. Prerequesite - Basic Skills Award.
The holder of the sea skills award has demonstrated the ability to plan and conduct personal kayaking activities, as
part of a group, in sea kayaks at sea defined as outside of estuaries, embayments or other sheltering reefs or islands in
moderate sea conditions. Covers: rolling, bracing in surf and overnight trip planning etc. It will be delivered by a
current AC Instructor. Assessment will be carried out in moderate sea conditions by a current AC Assessor.
Duration: up to 4 hour sessions, as many as required.
SEA LEADER AWARD (Club) ACAS 2008. Prerequesite - Sea Skills Award.
The holder of this award has been assessed and is qualified to lead groups of sea skills or peer group paddlers in sea
kayaks at sea defined as outside of estuaries, embayments or other sheltering reefs or islands in moderate conditions.
It will be delivered by a current AC Instructor. Assessment will be carried out in moderate sea conditions by a current
AC Assessor.
Duration: up to 4 hour sessions, as many as required.
