Juniors Paddling (Under 12’s)   9.00 - 9.30 Please arrive 15 min’s early Seniors Paddle Training (12 - 16’s)   9.30 - 11.00 Please arrive 15 min’s early Junior paddle training is for members under 16 years of age. Juniors are introduced to their new environment, whilst being taught the basic skills required to paddle and control a kayak safely and confidently.  New members will be asked to complete a simple swim test. Junior members that are 12 years and under should arrive in plenty of time and be ready to be on the water by 9am, this includes being dressed and the preparation of paddling equipment.  This age group will be taught the very basics of paddling and safety whilst gaining confidence in the open water environment. The Senior paddle group will have demonstrated that they possess the skills and fitness to venture a little further than the training pool, with the opportunity to learn the more technical skill sets and participate in short paddle trips around the local area under supervision.    This group will be responsible for washing down the session equipment and packing away. There are also various award schemes that the juniors are encouraged to attend when they are ready and many different canoeing disciplines to experiment with. All equipment for the morning is supplied by the club and our sponsors, Kayaks 4-U, but feel free to bring your own kayaks, paddles & PFD’s etc. if you wish.  These will be checked for suitability before use. So what does my child need to bring? All the activities are water based, so wear clothing that is suitable for the conditions on the day and that he/she can swim in, bring a towel and change of clothes too.  A good water proof sunscreen is essential on summer days.  Footwear is also very important; paddlers should wear shoes or sandals that protect the soles of the feet from any sharp objects that might be lurking in the sand.  Water or juice to drink, they will be working hard and will need to re-hydrate regularly. There is a Deli on the beach that sells hot and cold snacks, ice creams and drinks etc and there will normally be a 5- 10 minute break. All minors under the age of 14 MUST be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. SUMMER PADDLE TRAINING FOR JUNIORS
